Introducing Dana Wildeboer - HR Support and Recruitment Advisor

“I started with Hill Labs 29 years ago back in 1995 when I was looking for my first job out of high school. What attracted me to the company was their reputation, they were a small but well known local business in Cambridge.

Over the years I’ve performed a variety of business support roles – Receptionist, Office Manager, Induction Officer, Client Services Coordinator, HR Administrator and now my current role which is part time in the Human Resources team as Hill Labs’ HR Support and Recruitment Advisor. Growth and expansion within the business has allowed for each of my roles to evolve and develop along the way.

During my time working at Hill Labs, one of the most significant changes has been the technology. Most of my colleagues would think about the technology in terms of the lab equipment and processes, whereas for me it’s very much how the technology has changed our business support capabilities as well. I have a green master book that I have kept in my office from when I first started in 1995. Back then, if a client required a default array of tests, individual reporting preferences, or invoicing instructions then it was noted in this reference book, and this detail often became committed to memory. We didn’t have any platforms to capture that or automate it. It’s a nice reminder of the past that allows us to realise how far we’ve come and how much things have changed.

As new technology has come on board, we’ve adapted to it, adopted it, harnessed and utilised it to our benefit. That agility and adaptation has been really important to our business.

What’s made me stay at Hill Labs all this time is the people, those both past and present, that I have been fortunate enough to work with and alongside over the years. In HR we are focused on working together and helping others, we have such a positive team environment and I am proud of the work we do collectively. That positive company culture was very prominent when I joined the business 29 years ago, and something that still remains true today.

Outside of work, for me family is first and foremost. That’s why I appreciate the culture and family values that Hill Labs brings to life in the workplace. We’ve grown a lot since the early days, but the Hill Labs’ values remain steadfast."

"I’ve been with Hill Labs for almost 24 years now, ever since I joined as a lab technician in the environmental organics section back in July 2000. My journey to Hill Labs was influenced by my upbringing on a dairy farm and my interest in science. After completing a science course at Wintec, I found my way to Hill Labs and I’ve stayed here all this time thanks mainly to the variety of the work that we get to do."

“Come October this year, I’ve been with Hill Labs for 30 years. Personally, there are so many stand out moments during my career but one of the most significant has been the opportunity to help grow the organics section in the lab, being part of the clean-up of the old Fruitgrowers’ Chemical Company DDT plant in Mapua, and helping to grow the methamphetamine testing service which grew from nothing to being a very significant contributor to our business at one stage."
