"Sometimes things just fall into place when you least expect it. While recovering from a spinal injury and contemplating my next steps, I saw the IT Team Leader role at Hill Labs advertised. Without giving it too much thought, I applied—and landed the job.

Fast forward a year, and I’m loving my role. I manage the helpdesk team, who efficiently handle all IT-related tasks—from setting up hardware and creating user accounts to supporting the in-house developed software that underpins Hill Labs’ operations. I oversee the flow of helpdesk tickets and am always looking for ways to improve and streamline our services, ensuring we deliver a great experience to the staff. I’m also involved in managing the deployment of new software and hardware across the business.

What excites me most about IT is that it’s constantly evolving. There are always new technologies and processes to incorporate, keeping me challenged and engaged. Plus, the mix of personalities and cultures here at Hill Labs is fantastic. Before joining the team, I didn’t know much about lab testing, but there’s always a science guru nearby to share their knowledge, and it’s clear how passionate everyone is about their work.

One of the highlights this year was hosting an adoption day for old computers we had retired from the fleet. To make it more fun, I created character images and adoption stories for each computer. The event raised $840 for the charity Kids in Need Waikato, which was incredibly rewarding.

Outside of work, I love attending classic car shows and competing in Pinup Pageants, where I create 1950’s-style outfits with classic hair and makeup, then strut my stuff across the stage. I’m proud to have recently won several titles, including Queen of the Thunder, Miss Morrinsville Motorama, Miss Rockabilly Mopar, and Best Personality at Miss Autofest.

Family life is also busy with three teenage girls at home. I’m a very proud grandmother to three grandbabies, thanks to my two adult sons. Becoming a grandmother at such a young age has been such a joy, and I love every minute of it.

2024 was a fulfilling year, and I’m excited for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in 2025!"
