Introducing our new Chief Operating Officer, Peter Lord

Due to the continuing growth and ever-evolving complexity of our multi-faceted business, late last year we established a new role in the company – Chief Operating Officer – and ran a rigorous recruitment process to fill it. We are pleased to announce that Peter Lord emerged as our preferred candidate and will be starting with us on March 3rd. In the immediate term, our Commercial and Operational functions will report to Peter, with the potential for his role to grow in scope over time.

Peter is a very well-rounded leader, with strong values alignment with Hill Labs, and so we are looking forward to him making important contributions to the leadership of the business. His time at Argenta, an animal pharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing business, and Procter and Gamble before that, have given him strong customer-centric experience relevant to Hill Labs, particularly within similar Quality Assurance frameworks and meeting high compliance requirements.

Peter says of himself: “I am fortunate to have worked for companies whose values were aligned to my own and I am proud of the growth achieved for those businesses and their customers. Hill Labs is a great fit for me, and I’m privileged to join such a successful Kiwi business. I am looking I forward to working with Jonno, Paul, Riaan and the rest of the Hill Labs team to develop our people, help our customers to succeed and for Hill Labs to continue to be an industry leader. Outside of work, my wife and I love catching up with our adult children, our friends and we enjoy our two dogs. We love the outdoors and are keen mountain bikers and skiers. You may spot us at a Chiefs game too!”

Peter is looking forward to meeting many of our valued customers, to better understand their needs, and how we are currently meeting them. Peter joins us at an exciting time in our journey, and we are looking forward to seeing him work with the rest of the executive team to lead the business toward new and exciting opportunities.

Reflections from Peter Lord, COO

It’s just over two months into my new role at Hill Labs and a good opportunity to provide an update. I have a strong personal alignment with Hill Lab’s values, and they provide a good framework from which I can reflect on what I’ve seen and learned. One of those values is People & Environment . It’s the people that have impressed me the most at Hill Labs. Not just individual’s technical knowledge and understanding of our customers, but also the collective effort to make Hill Labs a great place to work..

Embracing the Unpredictability of Every Kiwifruit Season

It's now been five years since Hill Labs established a Bay of Plenty branch dedicated to serving the New Zealand kiwifruit industry. Our Bay of Plenty branch collects kiwifruit samples from across Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, and Whanganui. These samples undergo a range of maturity testing at our Tauranga lab, providing trusted results for Zespri, growers, and packhouses to make informed harvest decisions.
