Gina McNamara - Senior Technician

“My current role is as senior technician in the non-routine department. I’ve been with Hill Labs coming up to 23 years – that’s over half my life! - and started in the ‘Waters General’ team as a lab assistant. Over the years I’ve worked my way up in various roles within the Trace Elements team until I moved into the Non-Routine department after returning from maternity leave.

Once I started at Hill Labs, I never found a reason to leave as the company has always taken good care of me. Family and community have always been important and during my time at Hill Labs we’ve formed a real community.

There’s quite a few of us still here now that have been there since the beginning of my career. Together we’ve been through weddings, births, and all sorts of milestones that you would celebrate with your close friends and family. There’s certainly a sense that we’re working together for something special, and that’s one of the best parts about working for Hill Labs.

In my current role I love that there is never two days that are the same. I also love that I get to work so closely with our clients, and this gives me the opportunity to see how the work that we do makes a difference to them, especially if they’re coming to us directly with a problem they need us to solve.

One of the most significant changes I’ve seen in my role would be the establishment of our all-in-one lab management software. We spent over a year learning how to programme and build the worksheets to get the system to do what we wanted it to. So, that transition from paper-based to an electronic system was a huge change that continues to evolve.

Over the years, I’ve loved seeing new technicians join the team, especially when they’ve helped us find new and better ways of doing things. As a company we’re always looking at making things more efficient for ourselves and adding greater value to clients.

I’ve been here to witness Hill Labs’ 20th, 30th and now 40th birthday. It’s a great feeling to still be here and to have seen the growth and success of the company over the years”.
