Our Sustainability Journey - Electric Vehicle Investment

We recently installed two EV charging stations at our Duke St lab and purchased two entry-level Tesla Model 3s.  As well as helping us reduce our environmental footprint, the vehicles also stack up financially.  After the government rebate they cost about $50K each (excluding GST), and will have much lower running and maintenance costs than traditional combustion engine vehicles.  They’re wonderful to drive, and so their value for money is excellent.

EVs are the future, and so we are big advocates of the technology.  We would love to incorporate EVS into our fleet of 40 or so vehicles operating largely out of the Bay of Plenty during the kiwifruit harvest season, but there simply isn’t the charging network available yet to allow for this.  One day we’ll get there, and in the meantime we’ll enjoy the new vehicles at our Hamilton branch, and look forward to hopefully introducing them into our Auckland and Christchurch branches too.

The smaller container offers numerous sample handling benefits, while still accommodating the 100g sample size required for Presence/Absence soil analysis.
